Snap enters the high-end AR market with $2,195 Specs

With a $200 refundable deposit, consumers can now reserve Snap’s first publicly available augmented reality glasses. Priced at $2,195, the standalone wearable devices are scheduled to ship this fall in the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, marking a significant shift in the company’s long-term hardware strategy.

The new hardware represents a departure from Snap’s earlier iterations of Spectacles, functioning as a completely untethered computer. Weighing between 132g and 136g, the glasses utilize proprietary liquid crystal on silicon technology to deliver a 51-degree field of view. Two internal Snapdragon processors manage computer vision and AR Lenses, supporting hand tracking and spatial interactions. Snap claims the battery provides four hours of continuous use, with an included charging case extending total capacity to 20 hours.

Design-wise, the glasses feature a bold, wide frame with an integrated LED indicator to signal when the device is recording. Users can adjust the lenses from clear to tinted in 10 seconds, and the frame supports prescription inserts. While CEO Evan Spiegel has long championed this move into consumer AR, the product arrives in a crowded market where Meta’s Ray-Ban collaboration has already established a footprint. Whether these glasses can bridge the gap between simple smart frames and high-end headsets like Apple’s Vision Pro remains the central question for Snap’s hardware division.
