The new framework separates these media-heavy interactions from the existing Web & App Activity option. By isolating voice searches, Lens imagery, and recordings from Search Live, the company creates a clearer pipeline for its machine learning infrastructure. According to company documentation, this data will be leveraged to provide personalized suggestions and targeted advertisements, provided users opt into the specific recommendation settings.
Google updates data policies to feed AI training models
Google is introducing a dedicated Search Services History setting to store user interactions, including Lens images, real-time audio recordings, and Translate voice inputs. This shift signals a broader move to consolidate media files and search queries into a centralized repository specifically designated for developing and refining the company’s artificial intelligence models.

Users retain granular control over their privacy during this rollout. If you previously disabled search history tracking via Web & App Activity, Google will keep the new Search Services History switched off by default. You can manually toggle the Save Media option to prevent your files from being used in future training cycles. These changes are scheduled to take effect across user accounts over the coming months, carrying over existing personalization preferences to ensure a seamless transition between the legacy and updated activity tracking systems.
