Mark Gurman reports that these upcoming operating systems will introduce "Extensions," enabling external chatbots to power core features including Writing Tools and Image Playground. The integration process will allow users to designate a preferred AI provider directly through the Settings app, provided the developer has opted into Apple’s ecosystem support via the App Store.
Personalization remains a central component of this update. Users will have the ability to assign distinct Siri voices to different AI models, creating a tailored experience where a specific voice can be linked to a specific underlying engine. While Apple is currently conducting internal tests with models from Google and Anthropic, these platforms may soon join ChatGPT as selectable options for system-wide tasks. This transition signals a departure from Apple’s previously restrictive approach to AI, potentially positioning the company as a hub for diverse intelligence models rather than relying solely on its proprietary technology.
