The investigation, bolstered by testimony from former Nordic Nano Group executive Lauri Peltola, relied on data from over 20 independent battery experts. Analysis of voltage curves and electrochemical signatures by researchers, including Julian Zahnow of the Fraunhofer Research Institute, confirmed the batteries exhibit the exact behavior of conventional NMC lithium-ion cells rather than the high-performance solid-state units promised to investors.
Donut Lab’s Solid-State Battery Allegations Exposed as Fraud
A high-profile investigation by Ziroth creator Ryan Inis Hughes has unmasked Donut Lab’s purported breakthrough in solid-state battery technology as a deceptive marketing scheme. The report reveals that the company’s flagship product is merely a standard lithium-ion cell, casting serious doubt on the integrity of CEO Marko Lehtimäki.

Lehtimäki allegedly utilized a practice known as authority laundering, commissioning specific, limited tests from the VTT Technical Research Centre to manufacture an air of legitimacy. However, these reports notably avoided verifying the company’s boldest claims: a 400Wh/kg energy density and a 100,000-cycle lifespan. Beyond the technical discrepancies, Hughes exposed a complex web of shell companies used to obscure the firm’s operational origins and financial maneuvers. These fundraising tactics have drawn significant scrutiny, leaving the future of Donut Lab and its retail backers in jeopardy.
