Microsoft tests Xbox 360-style blades dashboard

Xbox is revisiting its design history, as internal teams experiment with a functional recreation of the classic blades dashboard. CTO Scott Van Vliet confirms the project is currently part of a new initiative called Xbox Labs, intended to test whether nostalgic interface elements still resonate with modern console users.

The project emerged from a push to integrate retro aesthetics into the current ecosystem. While the interface is currently undergoing limited testing, company leadership is soliciting direct feedback to determine if the design should move beyond a prototype stage. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma shared a glimpse of the web-based implementation, asking the community for their verdict on the revival of the iconic horizontal menu system.

There is no confirmed roadmap for a wider rollout or a permanent return of the interface. For now, the blades remain an experimental sandbox exercise within Microsoft, balancing a desire to honor the console's heritage with the constraints of the modern Xbox dashboard experience.
